Foundations of Government: Post-Project Reflection
http://wethepeopleoftheus.weebly.com/
For this project we were asked to create a supplemental material would help eighth graders from T.R. Smedberg Middle School understand the content they were learning more in depth. We had the option of creating a physical book, website, video, or anything else we thought would best deliver the material to the students of this middle school. The topic of the project was Foundations of American government and how it has been influenced by the nature of man throughout the years.
In order to complete this project we had to learn about the different forms of government which was also the best part of this project because I really enjoyed the class activity we did to help us understand the forms of government in a better way. We also learned about the Enlightenment philosophers that influenced the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. Learning about the philosophers and over the Declaration of Independence and Constitution was important because it was one of the requirements that we needed to add to our final product. We did lots of research on the philosophers and their opinions on the best form of governments and ideas of the nature of man. We also researched how exactly each philosopher contributed to important government documents.
I learned a lot from this project, for the first time actually grasped what the Declaration of Independence was and how the Constitution worked. I do not remember learning this at a younger age, or maybe I did and I don’t remember but I know now that I will never forget what the Declaration of Independence was for, who it was to and what the Constitution is about. I also learned about the rights we have and now I am more aware of our rights and how to defend myself if I ever come across a problem with the authorities.
What was difficult to me during the project was having to complete the project. Completing the project was difficult because I got stuck with most of the work and my group members were not doing the work assigned to them which was very irritating. I really did not have trouble understanding the material we were learning but some of the Enlightenment philosophers confused me and I sometimes got them mixed up. I did go for help to Ms.G especially while writing my literacy task because the philosophers had similar ideas and confused me at times.
I think the learning outcome I grew the most in had to be knowledge and thinking because I understood all that was taught throughout the project. I learned about the Declaration of Independence and Constitution which was very interesting. I actually understood what each document was and who influenced what. I think I grew in knowledge and thinking because I
