For this project we were asked to chose a picture of a person (preferably someone famous) and then trace them using the pen tool. This project was the most challenging for me because I was not as adapted to using the pen tool as other students were. With the pen tool we were to trace all the different highlights and shades the person had on their face. This part of the project was especially challenging for me because of the color pattern in the photo. The colors I was using were not quite working out so I had to change the colors and interpret my image in my own way. Another part for our illustration was the third version. This part of the process was to make a third design of our final illustration and do something creative with it. The third version was the working I enjoyed the most, because I had more freedom with it and it didn’t have to be so faultless. This step wasn’t as challenging, but I did have trouble deciding what I wanted to do to my third version image. So I decided to go with a personal feeling. I decided to blur and fade the image because it symbolized someone slowly disappearing out of my life. I think this project shows my growth in agency because I created different versions, experimented with different tools and used new effects on photoshop. Even when I felt that I was not going to finish my portrait , I stuck with it and even got to complete 3 different versions besides the 3 required. This project demonstrated that I have improved in the class because I am now more familiar with illustrator and using the pen-tool. I am sure that with more practice I will complete high quality work.
